Perhaps this is never a problem at your house, but I have been known to drive the Happy right out of Thanksgiving and the Merry right out of Christmas!  My house full of feasting and memory-making sometimes becomes something you don’t want to scrapbook about.

A nasty ailment tries to come upon me every year.  I call it the Norman Rockwell Syndrome, or for those a bit younger, the Martha Stewart Syndrome.  This happens when old family recipes which never use a mix and take hours to prepare start colliding with my 85 piece family heirloom alpine village set complete with snow and lights.

Child, I told you not to help me with the sugar!  Now look at this floor!”

“Hubby, I know you worked triple overtime but we MUST get this tree up tonight!  Company is coming and we must look merry!”

“No, Honey, we will not be reading the Christmas story today.  No time!  I must finish this special greeting card list!”

In today’s wisdom search I  saw a picture of my problem.  Here’s Proverbs 17:1:  Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.

When I strive, strife leaks out of me, and makes the feast unpalatable. I might as well serve dry crusts for Thanksgiving!

This year I am determined that when the holiday season is pressing upon me, I will press into the Lord and learn how to tap into His supernatural peace.

Lord, this holiday season would You send me some extra special wisdom?  I so want to glorify Your Son on His birthday and not glorify myself.  I want to create cherished memories instead of nightmares for my family.  Would You help me, Lord, to simplify, prioritize, and lead my home in peace?  God, I press in to Your still small voice of instruction.  And I am smiling in advance for how You are going to transform me!  Thanks God!

Now let’s meditate for 30 seconds on our verse:

Proverbs 17:1 Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.

Great blog Lisa! I saw a big sign in Scknucks today saying something about wishing their customers a “joyous” holiday season. My first reaction was to sigh, because the holidays have never be good, let alone happy or joyous, but this year has the potential to be different, I quickly prayed, “Lord, show me how to make this holiday season joyous for my kids…” Your blog was true and so timely. Thanks. Lisa R.
