Stubbornness…Disorganization….Negativity….Carelessness…Anger. I could easily assign the name of one of my children to each one of these annoying traits. And oh, the tales I could tell.

Instead, I’ll tell you this: There’s a blessing waiting to be nurtured in each child who exhibits one of these weaknesses. The stubborn child can often persevere through intense obstacles. The one who wallows in disorganization is often the creative problem solver.

The negative thinker is often the one who can look ahead and see danger. The careless, happy-go-lucky one often has a contagious gift of joy. The quick-to-anger child often has a passion that can be bridled toward great exploits in the kingdom of God.

Choosing to look for the pearl in the sand and irritation of human behavior has transformed my mothering.

Ask the Lord to show you a glimpse of His finished work. God says The end of a thing is better than its beginning… You will then gain the wisdom to draw the positive out of the negative.

As parents we have an incredible power to pull the diamond out of rough. Let’s use it, and not carelessly send the diamond out with the junk yard trash!
